Q01: What is Zoho Chat?
Zoho
Chat is a web based chat system. You can access Zoho Chat using just a web
browser and an internet connection. It does not need any software to be
downloaded or installed.
Q02: How can I access Zoho Chat?
Zoho
Chat ( http://www.zohochat.com) is a web based application and can
be used or accessed using a web browser from any part of the world. We
recommend the following web browsers : Mozilla Firefox (2.0 onwards),
Internet Explorer (6.0 onwards).
Q03: How do I add a contact in Zoho Chat?
You can add a contact either using their Zoho ID or email address.
On adding the contact, if you are using the Zoho ID of the contact,
then an 'Add Request' will be sent to the contact for acceptance. And
you can chat with the contact once your request has been accepted.
If you are adding a contact using an email address, we will check whether
the email address is registered with Zoho or not. If yes, we will send an 'Add
request' to add in his/her contacts. If not registered, we will send an invitation to
the person to become a Zoho Chat user and will add you to his/her
account automatically, once he/she signs up for Zoho.
Q04: Can I search for any specific contact?
Yes,
you can search the contacts just by typing the starting letters of
their Zoho ID. All your contacts that match the phrase that you are
searching for will get listed.
Q05: How can I start chatting?
Just click on a contact's name/ID. A separate chat tab or pop-up comes and you can start chatting with him/her.
Q06: Is it possible to participate in more than one chat at a time?
Yes,
you can participate in multiple chats at a time. A separate tab is
created for every chat. You can switch tabs to converse with different
contacts.
Q07: Can I send an offline message to my friend?
Yes,
you can. We will create a chat session even if your contacts are
offline. Refer the above question on how to start chat. Your messages
will get displayed in the "Unread Chat" list when your friend comes
online.
Q08: What is a Group?
A
group is nothing but a conference involving multiple contacts in a
single chat window (tab). That is, if you are frequently chatting with
a group of members (say, your office team or your group of friends), then you can group all such contacts together and
can identify them with a single name. On clicking the group, a group
chat or conference gets created by including all the group members as
participants.
Q09: How do I create a Group?
On
clicking "+Add" link beside the Groups list header, you will be shown
the 'Add Group' screen. Just choose a name for your group and pick your
group members from the contacts list.
Q10: Can I modify my existing groups?
Yes,
you can modify your existing groups. Just click on the 'Edit' icon shown
in the right hand side of the group you want to change. Once clicked, you will be shown a screen which is similar to the 'Add Group' screen. You can
add/delete contacts as needed and finally click the 'Modify'
link/button.
Q11: Can I delete existing participants from my group?
Yes, just use 'Modify Group', delete the members in the selection list and click 'Modify'.
Q12: Can I delete my group?
Yes,
you can. Just click on the red cross icon on the right side of the
corresponding group. And once clicked it will be deleted.
Q13: What is a Transcript?
A chat Transcript holds all your chat history. All your previous chats will be available here.
Q14: Can I archive or save my chat contents for future reference?
Yes,
your chats will be archived automatically from the moment you have
started chatting. Hence you need not worry of losing information when
you are in Zoho Chat.
Q15: Can I search for any specific content from my chat history?
Yes,
transcript is search enabled. just type the word which you want to find
and you will be listed with a bunch of transcripts which posses the
word.
Q16: How long my chat exists in my transcripts list?
Your chat will exists there until and unless you deleted it.
Q17: Is it possible to restart any specific chat from the transcripts list?
Yes,
you can. Click on the specific chat title and you will be shown
with the corresponding transcripts. Clicking on the editor will make
the chat live and any message you send will continue the chat further.
Q18: How can I invite someone to chat who is not a registered zohochat user?
To
chat with a non-registered zoho member, use the "Invite your friend to
chat with you" option which is available in the Home tab. Enter your
message and mail ids to invite, at once your friend will be sent with a
link. That link points to your guest room from there anyone can chat
with you as a guest. Note:Guest users were considered as a temporary
participant and their presence will not be maintained once he left the
chat.
Q19: Is it possible to add a non zoho user to my ongoing chat?
You
are allowed to invite any guest to an ongoing chat, just by adding
through invite guest in the "Add Participants" UI. If you are in a live
chat, click on the "+ Add" link in the participants list. Then you will
be shown with the "Add Participants" UI, in that choose invite guest,
then enter the email id to invite. Once invited, your guest will be
sent an email with a link pointing to your guest room for this specific
chat. From there anyone can participate as guest for this specific chat
and can send offline messages too.
Click
on Embed Chat in the Home tab or from the top link. You will be shown
with the embed UI, where you can configure the chat UI in the way you want
to embed in your web page or blog (which supports html).
Q21: Can you please explain me in detail on how to embed chat in my web page?
First step: Refer to Q20 about how to configure your UI.
Second step: Copy the generated code snippet for the configurations you have made.
Third step: Paste the code in your web page where you need to embed. e.g., let's say index.html is your web page where you want to embed Zoho Chat. Paste the code snippet in index.html and position the Zoho Chat box wherever you want.
That's it, now your web page is chat enabled and anyone who is visiting
your web page can chat with you provided if you are online in Zoho.
Q22: I want to customize the size of embedded chat window. Is it possible?
Of course, you can resize the chat window of varying size and can make
it to fit perfectly in your page. Please follow the easy steps
mentioned below.
First step: Please refer the previous Q21 on how to fetch the code snippet for embed chat.
Second step: Put it in a "<div>" tag and specify the height and width for the "<div>" tag of your choice.

Q23: How can I add a non-registered Zoho Chat user to an ongoing chat?
Click on the '+ Add' link beside the Participants header of the
corresponding chat window. In the screen that comes, choose the Invite Guest tab, enter the email address of the guest and
click on Add Participant.
Q24: I added a guest to an ongoing chat, but he/she was not displayed in the participants list. Why?
Guest
users will be shown in the participants list only when they were
online. i.e., Zoho Chat wont consider them as participants until unless
they were online.
Q25: what happens when I invite a guest to participate in an ongoing chat?
On
inviting a guest, zohochat will intimate the recipient about your
request for their participation via mail. In the mail, we will send a
link, and through that your guest user can able to participate in the
specific chat.
Q26: Is it possible to block a guest from the ongoing chat?
Yes,
guest access can be blocked by clicking on block link, which exists in
the bottom of the participants list of the specific chat.
This
is because any registered user participating in that specific chat may
block the guest access. Which in turn blocks you to continue this chat,
and you can participate in this specific chat only if guest access was
enabled.
Yes,
provided if the same font is installed on both the ends (i.e., sender
and receiver's end). We support font types based on UTF-8 standard.
Q29: What is the difference between Live Support and Shoutbox?
Live Support:
It is to let your website/blog visitors to chat with you personally
i.e., any visitors for your website can chat with you which will not be
shown to other visitors.
Shoutbox: It is to let
your website/blog visitors to chat with you and among themselves i.e.,
whatever messages sent by the visitor is also visible to other
visitors.
