Zoho
Chat is a web based chat system. You can access Zoho Chat using just a web
browser and an internet connection. It does not need any software to be
downloaded or installed.
Q02: How can I access Zoho Chat?
Zoho
Chat ( http://chat.zoho.com) is a web based application and can
be used or accessed using a web browser from any part of the world. We
recommend the following web browsers : Mozilla Firefox (2.0 onwards),
Internet Explorer (6.0 onwards).
Q03: How do I add a contact in Zoho Chat?
You
can add a contact either using their Zoho ID or email address. On
adding the contact, then a notification will be sent to the contact for
acceptance. And
you can chat with the contact once your request has been accepted.
Q04: Can I search for any specific contact?
Yes,
you can search the contacts just by typing the starting letters of
their Zoho ID. All your contacts that match the phrase that you are
searching for will get listed.
Q05: How can I start chatting?
Just click on a contact's name/ID. A chat window opens and you can start chatting with him/her.
Q06: Is it possible to participate in more than one chat at a time?
Yes,
you can participate in multiple chats at a time. A separate windown is
created for every chat. You can switch chat windows to converse with different
contacts. You can also pop-out the chat window(s) for your convenience and easily switch between them.
Q07: Can I send offline messages to my friend?
Yes, you can. We will create a chat session even if your contacts are
offline. Your messages will get displayed when your friend comes online and also in the "Offline Messages" list at the bottom-right.
Q08: What is a Group?
A group is a collection of Zoho contacts. Let's say you frequently chat with
a group of members, e.g., your office team or friends. Then you can group all such contacts together so that you can identify them with a single name. All members in a group get the group's name listed in their Zoho Chat account and by clicking on a group name, anyone can instantiate a chat with all participants in that group.
Q09: How do I create a Group?
Click on Manage Groups / Contacts -> Add Group, you will be shown the 'Add Group' screen. Choose a name for your group and pick your group members from the contacts list.
Q10: Can I modify my existing groups?
Yes,
you can modify your existing groups that you have created (groups with
an owner icon beside them). Right click on a group and choose the
'Edit' option. You can
add/delete contacts as needed.
Q11: Can I delete existing participants from my group?
Yes,
you can delete existing participant from a group. Right click on a group and choose the
'Edit' option. You can remove contacts from the group as needed.
Q12: Can I delete my group?
Yes,
you can. Right click on the group you have created (groups with an
owner icon beside them). You'll see the 'Delete' option listed.
Q13: What is Chat History?
Chat History holds all your chat transcripts.
Q14: Can I archive or save my chat contents for future reference?
By default, Zoho Chat archives all chat sessions. And these will be available under Chat History.
Q15: Can I search for any specific content from my chat history?
Yes, chat history is search enabled. Searching for words / phrases will list matching chat transcripts.
Q16: How long does a chat exist in my chat history?
Your chat transcripts will exist till you delete them. You can delete a chat transcript by clicking on the 'x' icon beside it.
Q17: Is it possible to restart any specific chat from the chat history?
Yes,
you can. Choose the specific chat title and click on 'Continue Chat' to restart the chat.
Q18: How can I invite someone to chat who is not a registered Zoho Chat user?
To
chat with a non-registered Zoho member, use the "Instant Chat" option.
Enter the email address of the person who you want to chat with. An
email will be sent with a
link. Clicking on the link, he/she can start chatting with you.
Q19: Is it possible to add a non-Zoho user to my ongoing chat?
Yes,
you can. In the on-going chat window, give the email address of the
non-Zoho user in the 'Invite Contacts' field at the top-right. An email
will be sent with a
link. Clicking on the link, he/she can join that specific chat. Once
he/she joins the chat, their name will get displayed in that chat's
participants list.
Q20: How can I embed chat in my web page?
There are different ways to embed a chat. For more details, refer to this page.

Q22: I want to customize the size of embedded chat window. Is it possible?
Of course you can resize the chat window of varying size and can make
it to fit perfectly in your page. Please follow the easy steps
mentioned below.
First step: Refer to this page for how to generate the chat embed code
Second step: Put it in a "<div>" tag and specify the height and width for the "<div>" tag of your choice.

Q23: I added a guest to an ongoing chat, but he/she was not displayed in the participants list. Why?
Guest
users will be shown in the participants list only when they were
online. i.e., Zoho Chat wont consider them as participants until unless
they were online.
Q24: What happens when I invite a guest to participate in an ongoing chat?
On
inviting a guest, Zoho Chat will intimate the recipient about your
request for their participation via mail. In the mail, we will send a
link, and through that your guest user can be able to participate in the
specific chat.
Q25: Is it possible to allow/block a guest from an ongoing chat?
Yes, you can. In a chat window use the 'Configure Guest Access' button to allow/block guests.
Q26: I am a guest user, my chat window suddenly disappears and shows a message "Guest access has been temporarily blocked". What's going on?
This
is because any registered user participating in that specific chat may
block the guest access. Which in turn blocks you to continue with that
chat. You can participate in this specific chat only if guest access is
re-enabled.
Q27: Can I chat in my own language? Do you support all the font types?
Yes,
provided if the same font is installed on all the participants' machines. We support font types based on UTF-8 standard.
Q28: What is the difference between Live Support and Shoutbox?
Live Support: It is to let your website/blog visitors to chat with you personally i.e., any visitors for your website can chat with you which will not be shown to other visitors.
Shoutbox: It is to let your website/blog visitors to chat with you and among themselves i.e., whatever messages sent by the visitor is also visible to other visitors.
Q29: How safe are the usernames / passwords that I enter for my Yahoo/Google/MSN/AIM/ICQ/Jabber networks?
Zoho Chat transfers the usernames & passwords of the multi-protocol accounts over HTTPS (SSL 128-bit encrpytion).
By
default, your usernames & passwords are not saved by Zoho Chat. We
save them only when you choose the Save Email Address and Password
option. And these are encrypted while storing in our database.
